EHYAN Proposal: Educational Success for Children without Homes Act of 2009
Our mission as the Educate Homeless Youth Action Network (EHYAN) is to advocate to Congress the importance of passing the S. 2800 bill. This bill, better known as the Educational Success for Children without Homes Act of 2009, is especially important during this economic crisis because it is a growing problem throughout our nation. As our economy worsens, citizens have reaped the consequences of the financial downfall. Communities are carrying the burden of residents who are on the brink of homelessness and school districts are closing due to lack of adequate resources and funding. A major growing problem which threatens the future of America is the alarming homeless children rate. This group, which is often overlooked, needs to gain a substantial amount of attention because without the education of our youth, America will continue to fall behind and become less competitive as a nation. We need to not only protect the educational rights of the homeless but ensure that they are all provided with equal educational opportunities. |
